About The Yorkville Judo Club

The Yorkville Judo Club was started at the home of Sensei Bob Corwin in 1971.  Two years later, the club moved to their new dojo (gym) in the basement of the Bank of Yorkville in Countryside Center, where the club practiced for 15 years.  On March 1, 1989, the club moved to a larger dojo in the Countryside Center Mall.

The club has produced hundreds of national champions along with numerous internation champions, including those who train at the Yorkville Judo Club summer camp from other judo clubs.

Many Yorkville Judo Club members have earned their black belts such as Dr. Dan Hatcher, Kevin Hatcher, Bill Diehl, Larry Grieter, Todd Caviness, Justin Caviness, Brittany Caviness, Jon Wagner, Dennis Knauf, Mike Prieditis, Rick Undesser, Paul Machucca, and Greg Edwards.

The coaching staff is made up of many coaches including, the head Coach Bob Corwin 6th Dan, who is one of the highest ranking blackbelts in the nation, member of the national coaching staff for 10 years, a Junior World team coach, and a USA team coach for several international tournaments. Along with Bob Corwin there are many assistant black belt coaches including Rick Undesser 3rd  Dan, Todd Caviness 2nd Dan, Justin Caviness 2nd Dan, Kaz Ayukawa 2nd Dan, Greg Edwards 1st Dan.

The Yorkville Judo Club is very family-oriented, working together to develop their players physically, mentally and morally through the practice of Judo.  Many of the students come up a whole letter grade in their studies at school as a result of the concentration and self-discipline they have  learned in judo.  The opportunity to travel, for tournaments, has been very educational for the club, an academic achievement is encouraged by all the coaches, when they aren't training for competition.  The club also has several money-making activities through out the year. The money they make is used to operate the club and to send players to National level tournaments and camps help by other Coaches and clubs.

The Yorkville Judo Club is a non-profit Club, and all coaches are volunteers,  passing on the love for the sport.
